Day One - Lego Hotel

In the words of our students:

"The Lego Hotel was a project where we had to duplicate a hotel made from Legos. only one person from the team was able to look at the hotel at a time. we went layer by layer and started from the ground up."

"
Lego Hotel was fun, it taught us of teamwork. We had to have split the work between all of us. I had to get the right pieces for the building, while my other teammate went and looked at the model that was already built. Our team leader told us what to do. I didn't have to do most of the work because we split it. The first step we decided who did what. The second step we looked at the model to see how to build it. The third step we got the right pieces to build it with."

"Today in class we did the Lego Hotel group activity. You may be wondering what this activity is. That is common when the idea is first mentioned. Lego hotel is an activity where the teacher takes some Legos and builds a small hotel from them. Some groups, or teams, are formed from the students in class. In our class we were only able to form two teams. Once the teams are established a team leader is chosen by the team members. We chose Chase Palmer to be our leader. We are given some supplies and are told to replicate the teachers hotel. The catch is that the hotel is in the other room and we can only send one person to go in and look at it at a time. This person, or runner, has to look at the hotel and remember is structure by memory. Then they relay their info to the team and together we build our model. We were given a total of 15 minutes to accomplish this task. Our team was Successful! We learned how to work as a team and how structures are formed. I really enjoyed this activity and I liked my team."

"I think Lego hotel is important because it shows that teamwork and cooperation are very important to success on group projects and that is what hotel Lego demonstrated. it was also interesting because it all relied on cooperation."

"Lego hotel is about how to work together with other people to get it done. Lego hotel was pretty cool."

"Lego hotel’s taught team work. The hotels were hard because you could not see what you were building, only the runner could see. So communication was very important. Lego hotels was a fun project."

"Lego hotel was a hard exercise in which team work was required. It didn't help with different people getting up to look at the hotel because they came back with different memory of what it looked like."

"Lego Hotel teaches teamwork and communication."

"I think I'm going to really enjoy this class. I can't wait! I really enjoyed the group activity Lego Hotel. It was fun working with our groups, and I had fun building stuff. It is a good example of team work and clear communications. It shows that each person has a specific part and that by working together, everything gets done."

  2. Good design is hard to create because you want the product to amaze and astound people to wanting to buy it. The simpler the design is the better it will sell. Things shouldn't be complicated to use in everyday life. Design can also attract people's attention in cities or on tall skyscrapers by the way it was built.
